4-H Shooting Sports is a program offered by the Mississippi State University Extension Service.
This site is maintained independently of the Mississippi State University Extension Service.
4-H Shooting Sports is designed to provide youth with the opportunity to learn shooting sports skills in a safe supervised environment through participation in firearm safety training and competitive shooting sports activities. All youth from ages eight through eighteen may participate in the program. The goal of the program is not only to provide youth with the education and skills to handle firearms safely and responsibly, but also introduce them to a recreational activity they can continue throughout their life. The program provides the opportunities for youth to learn and participate in the following events:
Air Rifle - Air Pistol - 22 Rifle - 22 Pistol - Shotgun - Archery - Muzzleloader - Hunting
4-H Shooting Sports is a national program offered in Mississippi by the Mississippi State University Extension Service. The program is managed by Extension Service county agents and volunteers. As shooting sports have grown across the country so has the Lee County 4H Shooting Sports Club. The growth of the Club is only made possible by increasing the number of trained and certified volunteers.
The "4H Safety 2020 Event Handbook" is a great place to start learning about the program. It provides information on each of the shooting sports disciplines and an overview of the programs goals and participation requirements. This information is updated in January of each year to reflect any changes in rules and requirements. The current document can be downloaded below on the left.
The "4H State Invitational Rulebook" contains the rules for the State Shoot. The State Shoot rules differ from the rules used in the district shoots. Those that become qualified to attend the State Shoot need to study these rules carefully. The current document can be downloaded below on the right.
