We have a lot going on this month:
The N.E. Regional 4-H S.A.F.E.T.Y competition will be held Saturday, April 24th at the Jimmy Bryan 4-H Youth complex in West point for all disciplines except shotgun. The shotgun discipline will be held at the Starkville Gun Club. Once registrations closes we will determine if it is necessary to stager relay check in times throughout the day to abide by social distancing guidelines.
Those who plan to compete in the N.E. Regional competition, please get your forms filled out and turned in by April 7th. This gives our Extension Agents time to get the paperwork processed by the deadline. You can take the forms to the Extension Office or email them to Laura at: [email protected]. Registration form can be downloaded below.
Things to be aware of….
· Youth can only participate in one discipline/class this year. So if you are practicing two disciplines; pick the one you like best for competition.
· Each youth must have (8) hours of SAFETY training and a qualifying postal score to be eligible for the District Competition. Lee County will hold our own postal matches prior to the competition so that everyone meets requirements.
· 2021 Event handbooks are available to order. No discipline rule changes have been made. I have attached a copy to this email and will post one on the Band pages as well.
· All youth participating in the air rifle classes will shoot 3-Position. No shooting from tables.
· Concessions will not be available this year. Please be sure to bring your lunch or be prepared to eat/pick up at one of the local restaurants near the range you are shooting on.
Practice Schedule Changes:
We are going to have practice on April 10th and 17th from 9am until 12am, to help our youth prepare for the N.E. Regional Competition. These 3 hr practice sessions should get everyone their 8 hrs required safety training time. This is for Rifle/ Air Rifle; Archery; and Shotgun. Muzzleloading will still meet in the afternoon. Also, Shotgun will practice on Thursday Evenings as well this month. This is also noted on the Schedule Tab.

Congratulations: A big "Shout Out" to our Extension Agent over Shooting Sports, Laura Reed for becomming a Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor in two disiplines!!! Laura is newly certified to teach both Archery & Shotgun in the 4-H S.A.F.E.T.Y Program. She is a very welcomed addition to our program.
Training: If you are a parent that is always at practice, and enjoy what we are doing with youth, please consider becoming 4-H certified as an instructor. It's a day of training to get certified, and hey; you're already going to be at the range during practice anyway. Why not get involved and help us offer the best program we can. I've been involved in youth shooting sports, with different organizations, since 2008 and I can tell you with assurity that there is always a need for more instuctors in the program. There is a training in planning for the fall so, if you are at all interested; please contact myself or Laura to discuss and answer any questions you have.
Pictures: I would love to have some pictures submitted from each range to add to our Gallery. Our Coaches are busy running the ranges and making sure everything is safe; so parents, please snap a few pics and send them to Mike Johnson at my email below.
